Arts

The Ah-Haa School offers a variety of classes for all ages. After school classes include story theater, creative painting and innovative sculpture. Short-term classes in December revolve around making holiday gifts. Other short-term classes are also offered. Call the Ah-Haa School for a schedule.

Music Instruction

The academy offers classes in the art of playing music in a band. Instruction on guitar, bass, drums, piano and vocals, as well as a full-service audio and video recording facility.

Ulli offers piano lessons for all ages and abilities.

SAF Young People's Performance Workshops

The Sheridan Arts Foundation offers performance workshops for kids ages 6-18. Acting, dancing, song writing and comedy are just a few of the creative and fun classes taught. Call to obtain a schedule or enroll.

Skateboarding

Skateboarders and rollerbladers can ride until content on covered ramps including one big half-pipe and two smaller mini pipes. Telluride Youth Link on Pacific Avenue has a smaller skate park.

Bouldering/Climbing

A giant man-made boulder, Adventure Rock, in the Conference Center Plaza in Mountain Village challenges climbers of all ages to ascend its routes.

Camps & Adventure Programs

Three camps run daily at the Peaks: Pioneers, 12 weeks to 2.5 years; Explorers, 2.5 to 5 years; Explorer Camp, 6 to 11. Daily adventures include a morning nature walk, lunch on the trail, swimming and water slide, climbing wall, tennis and more. Reserve 24 hours in advance.

Once a week, the Bear Creek ranger takes kids for a free, guided nature hike up Bear Creek. After finishing an activity book and completing a project, the kids are declared junior rangers.

The Parks & Recreation Department hosts a variety of sports camps in the summer for kids: basketball, baseball, volleyball and soccer. Call for the dates of American Red Cross swimming lessons.

Pinhead Institute is dedicated to raising science literacy by bringing scientists to the region's schools and sending students into the world of science in Washington D.C., the Amazon, China and other parts of the world.

A program that offers education through outdoor adventure in rock climbing, kayaking, rafting, mountaineering and hiking.

Skateboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, boxing, climbing, planting trees, art, horses, cooking, making jewelry and joining the circus are just some of the experiences offered by the academy this summer. Camps run three to nine days.

A non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with disabilities by providing education and recreational opportunities that encourage personal growth. Summer activities include kayaking, rafting, fishing, adaptive biking and horseback riding. Winter is focused on skiing.

Youth Link offers recreational and educational activities for ages 11 to 15. On the premises is free access to computers, a skateboard ramp, foosball, ping pong, TV VCR/DVD and stereo. The snack bar offers nourishment, and recreational programs include camping, river rafting and skate competitions. Service learning projects expose students to web page design, running the snack bar, and the art of being a radio DJ.

The Telluride Kid's Camp is offered by Telluride Ski & Golf Resort six days a week (June-September). Activities include swimming, hiking, fishing, classes in art, cooking and more. Each outdoor pursuit is matched by an educational element.

Canoeing/Kayaking/Rafting

Kid-friendly river adventures for groups of any size.

Festivals

June 17-20: The Family Tent has magic shows, a petting zoo, special guest performers, a solar-energy-education center and on-going arts and crafts activities. Free during the Festival for the children (12 and under) of passholders.

May 28-31: MountainFilm presents programs specially selected for children from this year's repertoire. See the festival and meet with film makers, revolutionaries and outdoor athletes.

Nature

Daily children's activities and weekly animal presentations offer a fun education in the great outdoors.

Other Ideas For Kids

There are countless other opportunities for kids and their folks in the area. Just riding on the free gondola is usually good for giggles and squeals! Sled dog tours, sleigh rides and swimming in hot springs pools all cater to families.
